There’s no better way to celebrate There Goes Katie‘s First Birthday than at my favorite coffee shop Java Girl on the Upper East Side.

It is my go-to coffee shop: On my way to work in the morning, on Saturdays and Sundays to get reading or writing done, to pick up delicious ground coffee to brew at home or at the office, or to pick up unique gifts for friends and family.
The owner and staff are extremely friendly and they make an effort to get to know their loyal customers– of which they have many! It is your quintessential neighborhood coffee shop and the Upper East Side is lucky to have it.
They have a wide selection of coffees and loose leaf teas– their 59th Street Bridge brew is delish, as well as their medium and dark roasts. I’m a latte girl (if you didn’t gather that already from my previous posts) and my small skim latte order never disappoints.
In the mornings they have fresh pastries, and handmade sandwiches in the afternoons. You can also try their healthy and often vegan and/or organic homemade soups and salads that they sell in the mini-fridge next to the counter. I’ve yet to try one of their smoothies, but they look delicious and refreshing.
They don’t have wifi here – gasp! – but that’s what makes Java Girl such a friendly place. I also love their slogan: indescribably exotic & sometimes nutty. Do you think they’re talking about the java or the girl… hmm… Make a trip here on your way to Central Park or the East River Walk, I don’t think you’ll regret it.

I’m thankful for places like Java Girl who inspire me to continue writing for There Goes Katie. I can’t believe it’s already been one year, I am hopeful that there will be more years to come. Cheers to my readers and for exploring new places! Thanks for following along
